And this is where my fascination all began, or is beginning for I am only just starting to search and explore the world of old comedy and silent comedy.  It is from this that I was led on to the faces of the mime, the traces of the clown, that appears like lace over the routines of the silent comedians.  I have become fascinated by this trace, this link to an earlier form of vanished comedy and entertainment.  And I am looking online, ordering books, watching footage as and where I can.

As for Laurel and Hardy, it must not be forgotten: like many other comics and clowns of that era, they are not just archival pieces – they are truly very funny.
