I have always listened to Anna Von Hausswolff’s first two albums. It is, I now realise, a shame that only tonight did I really enter into and find myself utterly entranced by her third album ‘The Miraculous.’ The key to this album, and its difference with the previous too, is progression and texture. These songs are beautiful, as they always were, they scale heights and the open depths – they defy and roar. But these songs have such a moving texture, each song belongs to each other. They all share and partake of this one moving sound texture that elaborates and moves. And this is then made haunting and almost spiritual with Anna’s wonderful and truly original voice. The album evokes gothic beauty in simply such a beautifully gothic way. Listen!
